Protocol: Pneumatic Anti-Shock Garment (PASG/MAST)

INTRODUCTION
Refer to SHOCK, GENERAL TRAUMA and MULTI-SYSTEM TRAUMA
protocols for specific conditions indicating application.
PROCEDURE
- Typical Indications
- Lower extremity fractures.
- Pelvis fractures.
- Hypotension not related to chest trauma, heart failure, MI, ruptured diaphragm.
- Contraindications
- Supradiaphragmatic injuries (above diaphragm), particularly penetrating.
- Evisceration
- Pregnancy
- Open femur fracture
- Pulmonary edema
- Closed head injury
- Application
- Use standardized technique to apply PASG. Refer to Special Considerations/
/Notes/Precautions section of this protocol.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS/NOTES/PRECAUTIONS:
- Don't use scene time to apply trousers.
- Remove clothing under the level of PASG, or as minimum empty pockets.
