ALBUTEROL

- Therapeutic Effects
- Selective Beta 2 sympathomimetic drug, that is, a beta agonist that acts primarily on the bronchial musculature
rather than the myocardium. Therefore, albuterol relaxes bronchial smooth muscle and thereby relieves
bronchospasm.
- Indications
- For the relief of bronchospasm associated with ACUTE ASTHMATIC ATTACKS (ILS) or acute exacerbations of
CHRONIC BRONCHITIS (ALS) or EMPHYSEMA (ALS).
- May be utilized for Anaphylaxis (ILS or ALS).
- Contraindications
- Tachyarrhythmias
- Should be used with caution in patients with hypertension, angina, or diabetes.
- Side Effects
- Palpitations, tachycardia.
- Tremor, nervousness
- Dizziness
- Nausea, heartburn
- How Supplied
- Several forms, but for prehospital emergency care, should be used in the nebulized form, supplied as 2.5mg/3ml NS.
- Administration and Dosage
- Adult: 2.5 mg/3ml NS via SVN
- Pediatric: 1.25 mg/3ml NS via SVN
