ALS MEDICATION

CLASS: Antidysrhythmic

INDICATIONS:

  1. Treatment of shock refractory VF/ pulseless VT
  2. Treatment of polymorphic VT & wide complex tachycardia of uncertain origin.
  3. Control of hemodynamically stable VT when cardioversion unsuccessful.
  4. Adjunct to electrical cardioversion of SVT & PSVT.
  5. May be used in rate control of atrial fibrillation & atrial flutter when other therapies ineffective.

PRECAUTIONS:

  1. Vasodilation and hypotension
  2. Negative Inotropic effects
  3. Half-life lasts up to 40 days

DOSAGE:

Adult:

  1. Cardiac Arrest-Adult:
    1. Initial 300 mg IV push (mix in 20ml D5W)
    2. 2nd Dose 150 mg IV push in 3-5 mintues (mix in 20ml D5W)

  2. Wide-Complex Tachycardia-Adult (Stable)
    1. 150 mg IV over 10 minutes (may repeat every 10 minutes as needed) consult with Medical Control

Pediatric:

  1. Cardiac Arrest-Adult:
    1. Initial 5mg/kg IV/IO (mix in 20ml D5W)

  2. Wide-Complex Tachycardia-Adult (Stable)
    1. Initial 5mg/kg IV/IO over 20-60 (mix in 20ml D5W)
