- Therapeutic Effects
- Blocks Histamine Effects
- Reverses some untoward effects of phenothiazine tranquilizers.
- Inhibits motion sickness (antiemetic)
- Mild sedative
- Indications
- As an adjunct to epinephrine in the treatment of ANAPHYLACTIC SHOCK and SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTIONS.
- To treat ACUTE DYSTONIC REACTIONS caused by phenothiazines like thorazine (Compazine).
- In very selected cases, to relieve Severe Anxiety
- Contraindications/Precautions
- Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (use caution)
- Narrow-angle glaucoma (use caution)
- Pregnancy
- Nursing mothers
- Side Effects
- Resembles those of atropine:
- Drowsiness, confusion
- Blurring of vision, Difficulty in urination, Dry mouth, wheezing, HA, Palpitations
- Administration and Dosage
- Adult: 25-50 mg IV or Deep IM
- Peds: 1mg/kg IV or Deep IM
