Epinephrine 1:10,000 (Adrenaline)

  1. Therapeutic Effects
    1. Alpha and Beta sympathetic agent
    2. Increases peripheral vasoconstriction
    3. Increase heart rate and contractility
    4. Stimulates bronchodilation

  2. Indications
    1. Cardiac Arrest
    2. Anaphylactic Shock (ALS)
    3. Severe Asthmatic attacks in rare instances

  3. Contraindications/Precautions
    1. None when give for above

  4. Side Effects
    1. Tachyarrhythmia/Ectopic beats
    2. Palpitations

  5. Administration and Dosage
    1. Adult: 0.3-0.5 mg IV/ET for anaphylaxis
    2. Adult: 1.0 mg IV/ET for cardiac arrest repeated q/5min
    3. Peds: 0.01 mg/kg IV/IO Initial Dose for cardiac arrest
    4. Epinephrine Drip: 1mg (1:1,000) in 250ml NS to run at 2-10 mcg/minute for use in symptomatic bradycardia refractory to atropine and dopamine.
