Aminophylline
Combination of Theophyline and Ethylenediamine.
- Therapeutic Effects
- Smooth muscle (bronchial) relaxation.
- Positive inotropy/chronotropy.
- diuresis
- Reduces seizure threshold.
- Anti-inflammatory.
- Indications
- Bronchospasm.
- Contraindications/Precautions
- Allergy to components of medication.
- Interacts with wide number of medications:
- Increased effect of sympathomimetics, digitalis.
- Decreases effect of lithium.
- Activity diminished by beta blockers, barbiturates, phenytoin, smoking.
- Activity increased by cimetidine, allopurinol, inderal, erythromycin, oral contraceptives.
- Side Effects
- Restlessness, headache, seizure.
- Palpitations, tachycardias, hypotension.
- Nausea and vomiting.
