Antibiotics

    The number and type of antibiotics the paramedic may encounter on patient transfers is too great and cannot be specified in any detail on one protocol.
    1. Indications
      1. Infectious processes, generally severe and advanced if administered via IV route.

    2. Contraindications/Precautions
      1. Varies greatly with different antibiotics
      2. Allergy to the antibiotic

    3. Side Effects
      1. Allergic reactions most common, managaed as any other anaphylactoid reaction would be.
      2. Other adverse reactions may occur and vary by the antibiotic.

    4. Administration and Dosage
      1. Antibiotic dependant. Refer to physician order and Drug reference for specific antibiotic.
      Note:Discuss medication before departure to gather necessary information to monitor it competently.
