Antibiotics
The number and type of antibiotics the paramedic may encounter on patient transfers is too great and cannot be specified in any detail on one protocol.
- Indications
- Infectious processes, generally severe and advanced if administered via IV route.
- Contraindications/Precautions
- Varies greatly with different antibiotics
- Allergy to the antibiotic
- Side Effects
- Allergic reactions most common, managaed as any other anaphylactoid reaction would be.
- Other adverse reactions may occur and vary by the antibiotic.
- Administration and Dosage
- Antibiotic dependant. Refer to physician order and Drug reference for specific antibiotic.
Note:Discuss medication before departure to gather necessary information to monitor it competently.
