Terbutaline

  1. Therapeutic Effects
    1. Selective beta2 agonist that relaxes smooth muscle (bronchial), increases blood sugar, relaxes uterine tone, causes peripheral vascular relaxation and CNS stimulation to name a few of it's properties.

  2. Indications
    1. Bronchospasm
    2. premature labor

  3. Contraindications/Precautions
    1. Allergy to Terbutaline.
    2. Use with caution in coronary artery disease, CHF, hyperthyroidism and diabetes.

  4. Side Effects
    1. Palpitations, tachycardia, hypertension, angina.
    2. Tremor, anxiety, insomnia, disorientation, seizures.

  5. Administration and Dosage
    1. Usual dose: 0.25 mg SQ every 2-4 hours.
