Norepinephrine

  1. Therapeutic Effects
    1. Potent alpha stimulating properties with very little beta2 effects.
    2. Little effect on bronchospasm.

  2. Indications
    1. Hemodynamic significant hypotension refractory to other sympathomimetic amines.

  3. Contraindications/Precautions
    1. Myocardial ischemia or infarction.
    2. Hypovolemia.

  4. Side Effects
    1. Chest pain, MI.
    2. Tissue sloughing if extravisates.
    3. Hypertension, tremor, anxiety headache, dysrhythmias, seizures, CVA.

  5. Administration and Dosage
    1. Infusion: 0.5-1.0 mcg/min. to start, preferably through a central line. Range is usually 4-10 mcg/min.
    2. Mix: 4mg in 250 cc. Use the norepinephrine base for calculations.
