Norepinephrine
- Therapeutic Effects
- Potent alpha stimulating properties with very little beta2 effects.
- Little effect on bronchospasm.
- Indications
- Hemodynamic significant hypotension refractory to other sympathomimetic amines.
- Contraindications/Precautions
- Myocardial ischemia or infarction.
- Hypovolemia.
- Side Effects
- Chest pain, MI.
- Tissue sloughing if extravisates.
- Hypertension, tremor, anxiety headache, dysrhythmias, seizures, CVA.
- Administration and Dosage
- Infusion: 0.5-1.0 mcg/min. to start, preferably through a central line. Range is usually 4-10 mcg/min.
- Mix: 4mg in 250 cc. Use the norepinephrine base for calculations.
