Gila Regional Medical Center EMS is a hospital based Paramedic level ambulance service in southwestern New Mexico. We provide both 911 and non-emergent transport service in Grant County. We also provide Paramedic assistance to surrounding counties without paramedics. We are currently handling around 270 requests for service a month.

We run a fleet of 7 ambulances. We have 4 ambulances stationed at our main station in Silver City, and 3 others in outlying areas of Sapillo, Mimbres, and Cliff/Gila areas. The satellite services are staffed by dedicated personnel that are paid only when a request for service comes in. We have an ALS equipped Chevy Suburban for which we utilize on intercepts and special service requests such as in areas requiring 4x4 that are not accessible by a standard ambulance.

We have a unit that is equipped for rescue type work stationed in Silver City that is also transport capable. This unit is equipped with Amkus hydraulic extrication tools, as well as an assortment of hand tools, generators, lights, personal protective equipment.

We maintain crews consisting of at a minimum one Paramedic and one EMT-Intermediate. We have four full time two person crews and one person is full time on a day truck, that works with part-time staff.

We are all guided by Dr. A.W. Neely MD, our system medical Director. James Marshall is the EMS Director.

Mr. Don McNutt, NREMT-P provided leadership for this service as the director and was also very active in local and statewide EMS issues for 27 years. Don retired on June 1, 2013.

We all contribute to the continuing operations of this department by accepting additional task as may arise.

Being a hospital based service we are also active in insuring the success of the hospital. We assist in the E.R. with patient care at times, as well as in other non-patient care areas.

GRMC is a AHA Citizens Training Center and provides CPR and ACLS training. We are also participants in a local effort to provide for local Continuing Education credits.

GRMC-EMS has been awarded as a system as well as several individuals have received awards for heroism (water rescue), system improvement (communications system development), etc...
